In 1982, the Junior League of Galveston recognized a need for the families of children in Galveston hospitals. After a successful campaign with the loving support of many individuals, businesses, corporations and foundations, the House was constructed and opened in June 1989. Our House is independently owned and operated as a 501(c)3 organization. We currently operate as a Ronald McDonald House under a license from Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oakbrook, Illinois. While we have a wonderfully supportive relationship with McDonald's restaurants and especially our local owner/operators, they do not completely fund our House.
Our “House That Love Built” is supported by the generous monetary and in-kind contributions of our supporters and volunteers. We've served over 24,000 families since our founding in 1989.
Our House is a caring environment where parents can share their worries and concerns with families in similar situations. The families tell us that the support they receive from the caring staff, volunteers and other patients and families is an important factor in the well being and recovery of their children.
